Biden Withdraws from Presidential Race, Endorses Harris
FILE - Vice President Kamala Harris embraces President Joe Biden after a speech on healthcare in Raleigh, N.C., March. 26, 2024. President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race for the White House on Sunday, July 21, ending his bid for reelection following a disastrous debate with Donald Trump that raised doubts about his fitness for office just four months before the election.

President Biden, 81, ended his re-election campaign and threw the 2024 presidential race into disarray on Sunday, yielding to intense pressure from his closest allies who were deeply concerned about his ability to defeat former President Donald J. Trump due to his age and frailty. Praising Vice President Kamala Harris as an “extraordinary partner,” he endorsed her to lead the ticket in his place.

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president,” he shared on social media. “While my intention was to seek re-election, I believe stepping down is in the best interest of my party and the country, allowing me to focus fully on my presidential duties for the remainder of my term.”
